Health Equity Statement

I believe mental health care must reckon with the specific, compounded realities Black women carry — historical, cultural, and systemic — rather than treating distress as purely individual pathology. My work centers misogynoir, racial trauma, and the Strong Black Woman schema as clinical realities, not abstractions, and is built to meet Black women where existing systems have too often failed them: through culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and liberation-oriented care.

Biography

I'm Dr. Jacquelyn Johnson, PsyD (Dr. J), a licensed psychologist and ICF-certified coach specializing in the mental health of high-achieving Black women. Through my virtual practice, Deeply Seen Psychological Services, I work with clients navigating the Strong Black Woman schema — patterns of overfunctioning, overgiving, and identity collapse beneath performance and high-functioning exhaustion. My clinical approach integrates Internal Family Systems (IFS), attachment theory, narrative therapy, and Black and liberation psychology, with particular attention to how misogynoir shapes the emotional and psychological experiences of Black women.

Experience

Strong Black Woman schema: overfunctioning, overgiving, identity collapse, high-functioning exhaustion Faith-informed clinical lens: naming how religious teaching has often compounded the Strong Black Woman narrative, framing self-sacrifice and silent endurance as righteousness Trauma-informed care using IFS, narrative, and attachment theory Misogynoir as a clinical framework for understanding Black women's psychological experiences
